Storyline:
Believing the quote that you are born alone, die alone and everything else is an illusion, George doesn't see the point of life, school, or homework. Then he meets Sally and he now has a reason to go to school and make friends, even if he's not ready to admit to himself or to her that he likes her. The school's principal and art teacher introduce him to an alumni, and successful artist, Dustin, who can help guide George along life's path, but other distractions start surfacing, and George might not even be able to graduate from high school.

An intriguing start that eventually faded into cliches, even the semi-obligatory musical interlude. Not a problem if the two leads have good chemistry, but that was really lacking in this movie. Emma Roberts is stunning and sweet, so it was easy to understand why the virginal Freddie Highmore would develop a strong case of puppy love, but beyond the physical attraction there was nothing there. And why Emma would want to hang out more than once with the gloomy, laconic, admittedly misanthropic Freddie stretched the bounds of believability, especially since she seemed to have other decent friends at hand. It also bothered me that the 18-year olds in this movie had no problem getting served alcohol in every bar and restaurant in NYC. Glad the sneak peek was free, and from the silence at the end, I think the rest of the audience felt the same way.

This movie was a breath of fresh air in the wasteland of American cinema this summer. It seems so far in 2011 we're awash in comic book heroes and manufactured special effects, with little in the way of decent stories, crafted and produced by talented artisans. To those who would have you believe this little film is flawed in some way, I'd beg to disagree. It was a pleasure to watch and well worth the ticket price. A fact, I add, that cannot be ascribed to most of the tripe delivered by the local Cineplex this summer. A word of caution though to moms of girls: there is a fast suggestive scene of a young man's morning condition about midway through the film and that you might object to a young child seeing. It?s done as tastefully as is possible and in a fleeting comical manner but doesn?t go unnoticed. I encourage you to see this movie. It?s not some Hollywood blockbuster filled with super-persons but if you like a good story and talented actors, you won't be disappointed.

I read the reviews beforehand and they were pretty harsh. Watching the movie by myself, I found as a teenager with a romantic side, this movie was aboslutley amazing. It's pretty true to high school and teenage life and the charactarization of the main character George was well done. There were numerous moments where I curled up in my seat at the romantic sweetness, so precious it almost hurt. With a some twists that suprised me, the climax makes you wonder how the end will come out. It was written well, some parts making you want to cuddle with a significant other, other parts making you want to yell out at the screen. So if you have a partner willing, or even if you're just a romantic person, I highly suggest going to it. You will not regret it.

It was a thought provoking story line. The acting was superb; especially by Freddie Highmore. I liked the quirkyness of the characters, as well as the reality of the theme. Many young people must be feeling the same way. It speaks to the flavor of the times in which we live. I really liked the care exhibited by his school staff, and their willingness to give him every opportunity to succeed. They just wouldn't give up on him. And last, it was a great love story. Definitely a five star movie.
